Exactly right. The backup to the NAS means the worst case is a restore, not a loss. The health check on the survivor tells you whether it can take a resilver at all — same model, same purchase week, same wear clock. Then the swap and resilver happen while you watch, with a known-good copy sitting off the node.

The lesson: Backup first, survivor checked — then swap and watch the resilver.
