Homelab Hero · No. 007: your result

Hero call. 200 Hero Points.

Exactly right. RAIDZ1 with one disk dead has no redundancy left, so the resilver is a race you might lose — the job is to make losing it survivable. Easing off cuts the stress on the erroring disk, and copying the irreplaceable datasets to an external drive while the pool still reads means the worst case becomes a rebuild, not a loss. Redundancy can be re-created tonight; the photo library cannot.

The lesson: Irreplaceable data off the pool first — redundancy can be rebuilt, photos cannot.
