Prune with volumes in the sweep deletes data Docker is not currently using — which can mean the volumes of stopped containers and anything not attached right now. You traded a full disk for a possibly emptied library to fix a problem caused by exactly one file, in exactly one container.

The lesson: A prune that includes volumes is a delete, not a cleanup. Never run it as a first response.
